Another vintage style wedding recently for Claire and Lee at Shearsby Bath, Leicestershire. Both Claire and Lee were very keen on ‘fun’ images and so we mixed it up a bit, combining some formal photography with the odd bit of madness and of course taking the time to stand back and capture some natural moments. We had to contend with some pretty blustery winds on the day and very threatening skies, but a veil blowing naturally in the wind makes for some great shots. We did have a few laughs trying to sort our Claire’s veil as it tried to leave her head on numerous occasions. We were so lucky that the rain held off too. To break up the afternoon following the wedding breakfast, Claire and Lee put on ‘afternoon tea’ with some beautiful home made cakes and old fashioned sweeties – yum!. A roulette table also provided great entertainment for the guests. It really was a wedding day with many elements.
The amazing flowers and wedding cake were made by Belle Fleur a local company based in Wolvey, Leicestershire. Emma and her husband are very talented and creative and I have photographed a number of weddings where flowers, table decorations and cake have been provided by them. . The pretty, vintage teacups and saucers had been collected by Claire over a long period of time and were the wedding favours for the ladies to take home. What a lovely idea.
Once again, I was made so very welcome at this wedding and all Claire and Lee’s friends and family were great fun, and were also very patient in the high winds when it came to taking the formal group photographs. Thank you!

You have most definitely put a lot of thought and expense into your wedding day and this will always includes the finer details – flowers, jewellery, head piece, shoes, the wine that you drink, the wedding breakfast food, the favours on the tables for guests, your gifts for the bridal party. The list is endless… Every couple I meet will spend a huge amount of time planning their wedding and there will be elements of the day that will have very personal meaning to the bride, the groom (or both), or perhaps even to the parents of the couple.
I have heard some lovely stories from clients about why they have chosen a particular flower or colour for their flowers, or why they are wearing a particular piece of jewellery, or chosen a certain piece of music for the ceremony. I consider it my job to ensure that these ‘finer details’ are photographed to form part of the story of the wedding day, and of course to feature in the final wedding album design. Take a look at some of the lovely details shots below. I could tell you a story about many of them. You can visit my website at www.weddingsbyartography.co.uk to see my wedding photography portfolio. It really is lovely to receive thank you cards from clients and an added bonus to read their posts on their Facebook pages too. It’s especially nice, when I have had the pleasure of working with such lovely couples, mingled with and enjoyed the company of their family and friends on the wedding day, and had a fantastic time in the process.
Wedding photography is hard work and I always expect to be confronted with the unexpected when photographing any wedding day. An important factor for me is to NOT take over the day, but to gently direct when direction is required and stay calm in any situation. Equally important is to stand back and observe and record the natural moments throughout the day. And finally, to absolutely make the wedding party feel at ease and relaxed around me when I am photographing them. Relaxed, happy wedding couples, and guests, equals, relaxed happy, story telling images – SIMPLE!
A recent status update from Katy Lee-Salisbury was so lovely to read – ”Thanks so much for the wedding photos, they are the best, you’re the best wedding photographer ever, I would recommend you to everyone”. Certainly put a smile on my face.

I had the great pleasure in photographing the wedding day of Katy and Peter recently, and my first ever bride who wanted no formal photographs of herself! Lovely Katy hates being photographed and wanted her wedding day photography to be as relaxed and informal as possible. Her actual words were ‘it’s a party’ (a woman after my own heart) and ‘I don’t want formal photography’. And it certainly was a fun party to celebrate their wedding day. The ceremony was at Sapcote Church followed by a reception at The Royal Arms in Sutton Cheney, in the beatuiful marque at the rear of the venue. There were so many elements to their wedding day it was a job to keep up… Ice cream van, hog roast, children’s entertainer, face painting, fireworks and the bonkers first dance, consisting of the whole bridal party (including parents) leaping around the dance floor – totally hilarious!!! No formalities allowed at this wedding … just lots of fun with their family and friends, and lots of children. It was a great to be part of such a fun, relaxed day. Best wishes for your future together Mr & Mrs Salisbury. Oh… and Mr Salisbury has a fantastic website specialising in Board Shorts – check out his website by clicking here. Peter would have worn his board shorts on his wedding day if he thought he could get away with it!!

One of my favourite studio sessions is my party photo shoot package which is just the best fun ever, and I’ve been doing quite a few of these shoots just recently. What more could a photographer ask for when a group of young girls arrive, mega excited and wanting to be photographed, with lots of ideas for poses too. Total madness and laughter all the way through. I love it! For more information on my party photo shoot sessions please contact Lesley Bee on 01455 233224. You can see more images from these shoots at www.portraitsbyartography.co.uk

I attended the Young Artists Open Exhibition at the Atkins Building last night, to photograph the ‘Private View’ . It really was a fantastic evening and the work on display in the gallery was outstanding. There were cash prizes for the winner and runner up for both categories, 11-15 and 16-19 years. I think the judges had a pretty tough job to choose the best pieces of work because it was all so individual. Live music was provided by a young band called ‘Living Mystery’ with drinks and nibbles provide by Cafe Impressions in the Gallery. The whole event was run by Creative Hinckley working alongside Lindsay Orton the Creative Communities and Tourism Officer at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council. If you are interested in becoming a member of Creative Hinckley just visit the website. These are just a few images from the evening below:-

This little cherub was photographed in the comfort of her own home and I used natural light only for her photo shoot. Studio lights can sometimes be a little harsh on newborn babies, but thankfully the home where this photo shoot took place had an amazing loft conversion with sky lights. The light was beautiful and the bedding and decor of the room was mostly white . Perfect! A newborn photo shoot cannot be rushed, and I am happy to work around the needs of mum and baby. This shoot lasted around 2 hours and with breaks for comforting cuddles, a little feed. If you would like to have your newborn baby photographed in the comfort of your own home, please contact Lesley Bee on 01455 233224. We can arrange a mutually convenient time to photograph your baby without upsetting your routine. Please visit my website at www.portraitsbyartography.co.uk
We are having such amazing weather lately and it has been great to get outside and take some location portraits. I especially enjoy photographing children outdoors or at home. The studio can be a difficult and strange environment to photograph small children and of course because it is such a confined space, the best photographs are usually taken within the first 15 minutes. Any time after this and children have usually lost interest and are feeling a little ‘penned in’. It really is far more relaxed if children are in a familiar environment such as their garden or a favourite park and if they are photographed from a distance with a zoom lens they often don’t realise they are being photographed. I really do hope this good weather is here with us for a long time – fingers crossed! Just a selection of some images taken recently, including one of my daughter and our Cockapoo dog Ollie (my favourite boy!). Please call me 01455 233224 for details of location portrait shoot packages and further information. I can come along to your home or a chosen location and spend some time with you and your family and take some photographs that you will treasure forever.
